Sega Is Desperate for Money

Sega recently announced a new addition to their Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, Sonic Boom.

It's official that this branch of the series will not replace the classic and modern varieties, (whew!) but it will be a huge marketing campaign as it'll simultaneously launch an ecosystem of video games, toys and a new TV series.

It's clear Sega seems to be going after the Skylanders market with their focus on integrating merchandise, games and TV show. Honestly, I wish them well despite my mixed reaction. More money for them means more Sonic games for us!

The developers behind the new video game comprises of some former Naughty Dog designers, which may be why Knuckles has a Crash Bandicoot look to him. Personally, I've waited over a decade for another true adventure game akin to the first Sonic Adventure, and so far, this looks to be as close a hybrid of that and Sonic Heroes as we've seen thus far.

It's no secret Sega's been having financial troubles, while struggling to keep its iconic Sonic the Hedgehog franchise relevant, despite Sonic Generations and Sonic: Lost World performing moderately well.

This will be an interesting next couple of years for the company. What do you think of the character redesigns?

Mike says it best.

Mike says it best.

It was inevitable...  The motherly scolding of being clean, brought to you by Fashion & Video Games.

Good hygiene goes beyond taking your daily shower or chewing a breath mint.

Proper hygiene encapsulates the core fundamentals we learned as a child; such as brushing your hair before stepping out the door, removing gunk between your teeth after a meal, keeping trimmed nails, or even washing your hands with soap regularly throughout the day.

These subtle details are critical, and though you may not think anyone will notice, the ones who matter in your daily routines, absolutely will.

Don't become a talking point to others behind your back over something so easily controlled.

Jeans.  The American standard in common and fashion wear since the 1970s.

It's time to move on.

The good ol' trusty pair of denim jeans, perfected by the famous Levi Strauss & Co. in 1873, deserves every once of respect as it is popular, affordable and (can be) as durable as you are willing to pay for it. They're versatile and come in the widest variety of forms imaginable.

But, it's time to move on.

You have the ability to expand your potential in wardrobe by beginning to invest in pants. Whether they be trousers, slacks, corduroy or dress; By simply switching up your lower wear, you instantly expand your closet of possibilities without even having to buy another shirt.

Jeans will forever be with us, so let's move on.

Poor posture. Cool photo.

Poor posture. Cool photo.

A big component of your appearance isn't only superficial.

Proper posture and composure are critical to improving both your character, and people's perception of you.

The best part of practicing good posture is that it costs nothing, and you can accomplish it this... very... second.

This isn't anything you haven't already been harassed by before; if you're sitting, keep your chair in a upright position, with your back resting straight along the chair's arch. If you're often on your feet, train yourself to spread your weight evenly between both legs as you stand comfortably erect.

Either that or do a web search, or talk to your doctor or something. I'm just a tech guy.

Lifetime Leather Belts

Along my daily regimen of galavanting through the streets of San Francisco, I stopped and performed a literal double-take. To a bystander, my moves would have appeared to be straight from the movies.

I was suddenly presented with a vending stand exclusively featuring hand crafted, one-of-a-kind, colorful leather belts.

I was stunned for several moments, then ended up spending a good fifteen minutes perusing the wares in awe of the colors, designs and variety. Now, I've seen leather belts, but not like these from Lifetime Leather. I picked one up, and guaranteed myself this will be my only place to purchase belts in the foreseeable future.

Find them along Union Square in the heart of San Francisco.

I'm starting a collection.

The Golden Age of Grotesque

The Return of Originality in Haute Couture

One wouldn’t normally think that the words “Marilyn Manson” and “haute couture” belong in the same sentence, yet the creative director of fashion house Yves Saint Laurent, Hedi Slimane, has taken the fashion world by surprise in choosing Manson as the face of his 2013 Fall/Winter Men’s collection. This unconventional choice by Mr. Slimane has shocked many industry professionals, who have been more accustomed to seeing haute couture brands fronted by the Photoshop-perfect models and actresses of the moment, rather than the likes of this highly controversial and occasionally obscene industrial metal artist.

Marilyn Manson for Saint Laurent.

Marilyn Manson for Saint Laurent.

This Yves Saint Laurent campaign is a refreshing departure from the lackluster, “business as usual” high fashion operations of late. It seems as though for the past decade, mainstream fashion has embraced the dreadfully boring ideals of artificial, “perfect”, Photoshopped-to-death beauty as a muse, and many of the forgettable designs they have produced echo this. I cannot suffer through one more runway show where a gamut of snow white, expressionless waifs sweep down the runway on their toothpick legs with their scrawny necks seemingly unable to support their proportionally large, lollipop heads. There is a medical syndrome known as Line Hypnosis, a mental disorder often associated with working in meat processing plants, where workers spend all day watching a never ending line of identical carcasses until it eventually causes a type of temporary insanity. This is what I feel fashion has become.

Spot the difference.

Spot the difference.

It is no surprise that the fashion house to break free from this plague of monotony would be Yves Saint Laurent. After all, it was Mr. Laurent himself who had the honor of being the first designer ever to use black models in his catwalk shows. The brand has never been shy of straying from the norm, and it will take haute couture leaders such as Saint Laurent to be the catalyst of change for mainstream fashion to follow suit and adopt. It is time high fashion returned to its macabre and inventive roots, and shed this shell of “catalogue beauty”. The selection of Marilyn Manson for this campaign is sure to set an exciting new trend in haute couture, and has made the sixteen-year-old goth girl inside of me ecstatic.

Sale Bins

We hit the motherload!

Yes. Somewhere around four times per year Express has an End of Season, mass exodus of merchandise. These are my favorite times of the year.

These sales typically begin at 30%, then grow exponentially. If you hold off for about a week, the sales inevitably head up to 70% off. If you wait longer than that, you risk meager pickings (and what's left is left for a reason).

Take advantage of these and get yourself some nice styles in a Kool-Aid's variety of colors.

Be Bold

This is the time to make a statement. Be noticed. Be bold.

There's nothing like an old fashioned confidence booster after you take a chance and it pays off.

Each outfit you assemble should have one thing which stands out above the rest. This can be as straightforward as a fitted blazer, or as subtle as vibrant shoelaces. Whatever you decide, wear it comfortably as that's when you'll naturally exude confidence.

Never go out of your way to point out your show-stopping piece. Have grace and tact, act normally and you'll be genuinely surprised when someone notices and compliments you.

Tech Fashion Gimmickry

There is no end to amazing websites where you can purchase nifty LED-enabled tech-wear and nerd fandom gimmickry.

These merchandise are great to sport, as long as you simply remember to make them flow with the rest of your attire, and not abruptly demand attention.

Avoid combining all your nerd-wear at once, as well. Your 8-bit tie and badass Tokyoflash 1000100101 LED Watch would be more impactful if they aren't competing for attention against each other.

Super Mario 3D Land

The Nintendo 64 was the very first console which was my own. Subsequently, as was Super Mario 64 being my first, self-owned video game.

Months after the release of Super Mario 3D Land I still haven't played it until a colleague chastised me. My following paycheck, I downloaded it through the 3DS eShop.

I need to be ashamed of myself. 3D Land is the closest  game to Super Mario 64 after the Galaxy series, and returned me to the 3D Mario platforming I grew up on.
